This lick is based around D Phrygian Dominant scale using a variety of techniques including legato, economy picking and tapping.

In the first bar, there is a pull-off from the 11th fret to the 7th fret before going to the 10th fret of the D string. This Pull-off idea is repeated several times throughout the bar and highlights the 3rd, root and b7. Towards the end of this bar, there is a fast slide from the 11th to the 14th fret and back. I find the A note easier to play at the 14th fret of the G string rather than on the 10th fret of the B string, and the slide sounds cool at speed as well!

In the second bar, the first three notes need to be played by barring the finger over the 7th fret while muting with both hands to avoid the notes ringing in to each other. Also, there are some fast slides at the end of this bar too.

Bar 3 starts with the 3rd (14th fret) and b2 (11th) over a D7b9 chord before descending down the scale to land on the 16th fret of the D string. To end with, there’s a fast legato lick in bar 4. After the first 3 notes, I prefer to pick the next lot of notes on the E string just once to get a smooth sound. There’s a slide up from the 17th to the 20th fret followed by some more legato then a tap at the 22nd fret. It descends to finish on the 16th fret of the D string again.

I hope you like the lick, if anyone needs any more info, feel free to leave a comment.
